Thanks for reading Becky. Good luck with your travel ambitions! Won't be in the south this trip but maybe next time we are in the USA. Likewise if you get to Australia then look us up.

[...] No report would be complete without mention schooling and money. Schooling along the way has been a challenge and I just recently wrote a web post covering that topic. Check out my link http://www.fourdotsonthemap.com/round-the-world-schooling-for-12-months/ [...]

Hey Karina, It's interesting to see other people's ideas about schooling particularly when travelling. We did exactly the same thing you did, except we were required to register for homeschooling in WA (the reporting is very easy compared to Qld!!) The only difference is that by the time we had gone half way through our trip, we made the decision to keep home schooling when we got home. The biggest 2 positives of spending all that time together is that you find all the holes in their education and ours have spent so much time together they are like their own little drama company!! I noticed one of the comments on this topic was from a family with teenagers in relation to socialisation. Our teenanger stayed in touch with all of her friends via facebook and had no issues whatsoever. The best thing about it was we didn't have to deal with a lot of the boyfriend, peer pressure, clique stuff that was going on at home - she sailed right through a whole year not exposed to that. Fabulous! Best wishes you guys...

No amount of schooling could teach the boys what they have been experiencing this year. I would think that their perception of the world, maturity and compassion will far excede their peers. As a teacher I have taught a number of children who have had similar experiences and they are different in the classroom in a very refreshing way. Keep safe and enjoy the ride!

Not to sound corny, but isn't life the greatest lesson of all? No need to worry about your boys - they are bright young men who are absorbing everything while you are 'on the road'. I bet they are the best at bartering when they get back to school too!

Sounds like you have an adventure ahead too. Your kids are definitely at an age to encourage public speaking if they don't embarrass easily. I found our children coped better with speaking to younger children or teenagers rather than their peer group. If you make it to Australia in your travels then look us up!
