Vero Beach, Florida

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, United States of America

The drive from Tavernier to Vero Beach was about 3 ½ hours long and between the rain and the terrible drivers we were very glad to arrive at the Sea Spray Inn, a small neat-as-a-pin ma and pa style motel.  We were booked in for two nights so we could break up the journey back to Orlando; another of the many places I chose on a whim after some online research.  It turned out...

A week in Tavernier, Florida

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, United States of America

Tavernier is a small town just south of Key Largo in Florida.   We stayed at Ocean Point, a large condominium complex, that offered 2 bedroom condos, full kitchen and laundry for a good price; a home away from home for one week.  With so many options for accommodation in the Keys, I chose this location due to its proximity to Key West and also Everglades National Park.  At...

Key West, Florida

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, United States of America

I have always wanted to go all the way to Key West in Florida; the southernmost part of the USA.  From where we are staying in Tavernier near Key Largo, it is a 2 hour drive to Key West; we thought we’d drive to Key West and back in one day and do it as a day trip.  This worked out perfectly and we really enjoyed the time we were there.  I must admit I was a little bummed...

Naples, Florida

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, United States of America

After leaving Orlando on 1st December we headed for Naples on the Gulf Coast of Florida. As you may have read already, we stopped and did a spot of manatee spotting on the way and then on our first day in Naples we drove to Sanibel Island to do some shell collecting.  What else did we do in Naples?

  • Hung out at the hotel pool and gym and ate a hearty breakfast every...

Sanibel Island, Florida

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, United States of America

What do you do when you stay in Naples, Florida?  You drive an hour north to Sanibel Island to see their famous shelly beaches.  The best of their beach runs east-west rather than north-south so they become a dumping ground for shells. These beaches are covered in shells and often the shells form large drifts.  It was certainly worth the drive to see them all.  We found one...
