Day 6 – It isn’t every day that you get sat on by an elephant!

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Indonesia

Headed to Taman Safari in Cisarua, Bogor close to the Embassy cottage in Puncak.  The turn-off for the park is marked by a large wooden sculpture of African animals and the street leading to the park is lined with people selling bunches of carrots. We bought a bunch since we had heard a few snippets about what we were in for … seeing is believing!  We bought tickets and...

Day 5 – Take care or you’ll end up with a tattoo!

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Indonesia

Kidzania is an activity filled kidsize world for children under 16 years, recommended by an Australian family we met at the apartments.  Kidzania is designed so the kids earn money by participating in different workplaces, all branded by Indonesian companies (of course);  then are able to use that money to pay for different experiences or items (junk)  in the flea market or...

Jakarta – Day 4.

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Indonesia

Started the day with a drive into the city, with Harsono, to the Monumen Nasional (Monas) – the National Monument. We walked all around the monument before we found the entrance. You pay money to get into the diorama history museum and then paid more to get the lift up to the top of the tower. The tower was built during Soekarno’s presidency and was opened in July, 1975. ...

Jakarta – Day 3.

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Indonesia

Our first big day out in Jakarta saw us head into Kota, the old town of Batavia.  Three of us drove in with Harsono in airconditioned comfort, whilst my cousin James, his son Marshall and Harris took a taxi.  Every Sunday one part of the road is closed to cyclists so there were different bikes and people to watch along the way. We saw big flash hotels, dingy little side...

Day 2 – Jakarta.

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Indonesia

Just in case you were wondering, day 2 did occur but it was a lovely low key day at the apartment complex. Checked out the swimming pools – indoor and outdoor; playgrounds, walked around; ate; rested and chatted with my cousin James and his family Karen and Marshall.  We also spent a good amount of time just looking over the 11th floor balcony to people watch. The kids had...

The final countdown!

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Preparation, Update

The week that was …

  • I gladly said goodbye to Toowoomba and added more kilometres to the car driving all over to pickup kids and make it to my parent’s house.
  • Squeezed in a movie with my mum and sister – recommend ‘The King’s Speech’.
  • Steve celebrated his last day of work and attended a race day/farewell with his ambulance mates.
  • The ute got a new windscreen before handing...

One week left!

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Update

This week we feel like we are in practice for the 12 months ahead with living out of one bag each; sitting in a car for many long drives and swapping beds frequently. We have stayed with my parents, Steve’s parents, a motel and friends. We have eaten a lot of take away food for lunch and dinner but also been very well fed at our ‘homestays!’

A big thank you to Mick and...

14 sleeps to go

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Preparation, Update

Life has settled dramatically since my last post. We officially moved out of our house on Saturday – a little sad for a number of reasons but especially because it was absolutely sparkling clean and I would have loved to sit and enjoy that moment; which wouldn’t have lasted long with two boys, but still would have been nice for a short amount of time. We moved in with some...

What a week!

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Update

Who would believe the events that have unfolded in the 7 days since my last post.  On Monday whilst visiting a neighbour, the rain came down, yet seemed no more or less than the rain we have had for weeks. Yet, it was.  We stepped out of the neigbouring house into a torrent of water. Our backyard became a creek whilst our neighbours behind us suffered a river. These two...
